Hello!

My name is Emma Lorton, and I serve as the Gifted & Talented Resource Teacher at Odyssey ECCO. Gifted and Talented education focuses on supporting the unique learning needs of students who think and learn at a different pace or depth than many of their peers.

I am thrilled to be part of the Odyssey community and love seeing students’ excitement and passion for learning each day. It's a special place and you feel it the second you walk into the building!

MISSION:

  • To support gifted and talented students in achieving their academic, social, emotional, and creative-productive potential by providing an appropriate learning environment based on best practices in gifted education.
  • Structured time to brainstorm and write ALP goals with quarterly check-ins on goals
  • Monthly small-group check-ins with the gifted resource teacher (digital newsletter format for upperclassmen)
  • Weekly support for students with Ds/Fs Resources and support for parents
  • Opportunities for before school and lunchtime social groups and/or academic support (digital availability for upperclassmen)
  • Connections to community resources and opportunities
  • Support with scholarships, college applications, and recommendation letters

GIFTED STUDENTS BILL OF RIGHTS

Students have a right...

  • to know about their giftedness
  • to learn something new every day
  • to be passionate about their talent area without apologies
  • to have an identity beyond their talent area
  • to feel good about their accomplishments
  • to make mistakes to seek guidance in the development of their talent
  • to have multiple peer groups and a variety of friends to choose which of their talent areas they wish to pursue
  • to not to be gifted at everything
